When we changed our narrative idea we decided to change our opening. Instead of having the photographs from the wedding, we will use photographs of our artist growing up such as, baby photographs, toddler, child, teenager and early adult. Our new idea fits well with time and how quickly the photographs appear on screen represents how quickly youth grow up.

Make Up Inspiration
Whilst watching Breakfast Club I really liked the extreme close up shot of the girl applying her make up. Also, I liked the delicate brush strokes when the girl applied mascara. Which I then thought that we could create a shot similar to the Breakfast Club scene but our artist would blink, the blink fit with the beat. I filmed the scene on my iPhone and I uploaded it straight from my phone to YouTube.

Example of Our Opening
In our storyboard we were going to have seventeen different quick shots of seventeen different romantic gestures with out showing the actors in the video such as, a couple holding hands, hands creating a heart and a wide shot from the side of the couple showing them hugging. The seventeen shots were going to be the same as the seventeen beat opening the song. We then started to experiment with different ideas of our opening such as the seventeen different shots of the couple (original idea), seventeen photographs being placed of the couple or seventeen different shots of the artist introducing her as she is a new artist.

New Narrative
Our previous narrative for our music video was a girl who meets a boy at a train station and the video would of explored their relationship and the dates that they went on for example, winter wonderland, restaurant and a walk around London. Then towards the end of the music video the girl would be watching footage of her and the boy ice skating at winter wonderland and she would pause the television when she sees the boy holding another girls hand. The scenes would quickly reverse which was inspired by Kids in Glass Houses- Matters At All, this would of taken the audience back to the meeting of the couple it would of become apparent that the girl was stalking the boy. Also, in the 'dates' the boy would of been with his actual girlfriend, we would of shown this by wide shots and at the restaurant scenes before there would of only been close up shots or back mid or wide shots. Both girls would of been wearing similar outfits so the audience would not of been able to tell them apart. However, when we was going to film there was snow so we had to delay our schedule as we wanted to film in London and some train services had been canceled. The night before we was going to film one of our group members could not get in contact with the boy who was an important part in our music video, he did not return our calls so we had to decide on another narrative as his withdraw from the music video was very sudden.

Extra Footage from Lip Syncing
The video below is our extra footage of when we filmed Michaela lip synching, we feel that creating a video to music has improved our editing skills as we have improved our timing on the beat and we have improved our variety of different shots.

Teenage Dream Ideas (Nine)
I think that we should include a silhouette shot which would be of Michaela (girl A) or Jessica (girl B) and the boy, so the audience assume that the boy is with Michaela (girl A) .
The still shot on the right is from 30 Seconds to Mars- Kings and Queens, this shot makes the audience immediately focused on the people as the subject contrasts the background.
The silhouette could be a close up shot of the side of Michaela's face when she has realised that she is not actually in a relationship with him which represents the 'dark' side of her love and the obsession. We could also have a mid shot or a close up shot of girl (B) and the boy during the video. However the audience will not know that it is girl (B) as the silhouette is blacked out, an example of a similar shot is shown in 30 Seconds to Mars- Kings and Queens shot on the left. Below is the video to 30 Seconds to Mars- Kings and Queens.

After researching on how to create a silouhette I have found out that we should have a lighting pointing towards the subject matter far away but in the shot the light is not shown and the camera should be focused on the face. When editing we can make to silouhette darker by increasing the contrast, we would have to use a non dark background and there should not be a lot of night in the room.

Teenage Dream Ideas (Eight)
As a group we have decided to change our narrative, as we felt that our music video would be uneventful and forgetful in comparison to other music videos. We felt that our previous narrative idea would not be memorable through the other A2 media students. Another previous idea was to create an Alter Ego, we have incorporated this idea but girl (A) will try to act like another girl (B) who contrasts the girl's style and personality.
For our new narrative we wanted to have girl (A) who is obsessed think that she is in a relationship with the boy, the audience will also believe that girl (A) is dating the boy. However, towards the end of the song girl (A) is watching footage that she had earlier filmed and she pauses the television of the boy holding hands with girl (B). We want an element of voyeurism which will show the girl on the television filming herself and may be performing. This was inspired by Kids in Glass Houses- Matters At All.
We thought of Girl (B) wearing flamboyant clothing and dramatic make up as we want to portray later in the video that Girl (A) wants to be like Girl (B). We thought about Girl (A) applying a lot of make up which will seem child like, this will show the audience that girl (A) is imagining her relationship with the boy and she is unhappy in her life.
We still want Michaela to be Girl (A) as she has had previous acting experience which will benefit our production as there are a range of emotions within our music video. We have decided amoung our group that Jessica will play the part of Girl (B) as we can imagine the girl looking like Jess.
To show the audience the difference between reality and girls (A) dream life we wanted to have the the dream life in colour, but we want the colours to be bright so we will use iMovie to enhance the brightness and contrast. We have also changed our location as we wanted to film in Brighton but after learning that Winter Wonderland will be open when we are filming we have decided to base some of our music video shots there. There will be many bright lights as it is a fun fair aswell. We wanted the reality shots to be black and white as it shows the unhappiness in her life and it contrasts the bright colours to the dull colours. This was inspired from Lily Allen- LDN.

Teenage Dream Ideas (Seven)
After having a long group discussion we felt that it was best if we did challenge the conventions of the song and pop music video, instead of portraying schizophrenia we decided to make the girl obsessed with the boy. This creates a twist on the 'normal' teenage love story which are usually shown in pop music videos for instance most of Taylor Swift videos. I think that we should have the song with the couple but then at the end make the audience see that she is obsessed with him and the relationship never existed, this reminds me very much so of 500 Days of Summer Expectations VS Reality although we would not edit it like the example on the right. I love the idea of Expectations VS Reality as in one image the couple is together and there interacting with one another but on the photograph opposite the man is by himself or the women is being friendly towards him. Kids in Glass Houses- Matters At All shows a woman's obsession with a man who she does not know her, the video is shown below.
Kids in Glass Houses Matters At All
However, I think that we should create an Alter Ego for the artist as we can have dramatic make up and flamboyant clothing which will convey that side of her as superior and independent. The realistic portrayal of the girl will not have as much make up but she will be 'girly'. I feel that this idea will suit our song as we wanted to challenge the pop genre which is shown by the girls obsession. Beyonce created an album which was inspired by an Alter Ego and the photograph on the left shows the natural and feminine Beyonce, which contrasts with the dramatic and powerful Alter Ego which confo
rms to the pop genre. I think we could use a split screen of the alter ego and the actual girl but I do not think that we should have a split screen throughout. I got this idea from Lauryn Hill- Doo Wop (that thing) music video (right) both of the screens are located in New York City although one split screen is set in 1967 and the other screen is set in 1998 which shows the difference in location, time, clothing and society.
Lauryn Hill- Doo Wop (that thing)
I think that close up shots of the artists faces and close up shots of certain features of the artist's face which suits the idea of the alter ego and it conforms to Andrew Goodwin's Dancing in the Distraction Factory "The demands of the record label will include the need for a lot of close up shots of the artist and the artist m
ay develop motifs which recur across their work.". Close up shots will create mystery and a shadow across the face will create and eerie feeling which is shown in You Me At Six- Save it for the Bedroom (right) and in the left still shot Swedish House Mafia Vs Tinie Tempah- Miama 2 Ibiza (left). Below are the videos to both of the still shots.
Swedish House Mafia Vs Tinie Tempah- Miami 2 Ibiza
You Me At Six- Save it for the Bedroom
We should use the editing technique Image in Image as it creates a sense of distortion and an illusion which suits the alter ego and the girl, I really like the affect of the image in image as we could add more clips in the video. We used Image in Image in our Year 12 opening to a film and we loved that we could fade in and out clips and make the clips transparent, it seems that in a lot of recent music videos there has been image in image such as Biffy Clyro- Booooom, blast and ruin (left) which is shown below.
Biffy Clyro- Booooom, blast and ruin
I think that the end shots of the video we should have one wide shot of the Alter Ego holding hands with the male character, after another wide shot of the actual girl holding hands with the same male character and then a split screen of both of the girls walking in to the shot alone and then a point of view shot (the actual girl) looking in front of her this represents that the alter ego was a figment of her imagination. In Pink- Sober the audience see that there is two of the same woman in one place at once which inspired me, the video is about being 'crazy' and dealing with problems such as depression. I think we should use this video as inspiration as I feel that the clothing and the editing will suit our music video.

Teenage Dream Ideas (Six)
After the music video conference yesterday Pete Fraser said that "music videos need to be visually memorable and worth repeat viewing" bearing this in I had a lot doubts about our chosen song and the narrative for our music video. We was recommended to do a song which was unknown, although it would have been easier to have done an unknown song I felt confident within our chosen song. To make our video memorable I think we should change some of our narrative such as, I believe that the lead girl in our video should be schizophrenic which would make her 'dream' of the relationship and it would be insightful to the illness.
Schizophrenia is a "mental disorder characterized by a disintegration of the process of thinking and of emotional responsiveness. It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction. The onset of symptoms typically occurs in young adulthood, with a global lifetime prevalence of around 1.5%. Diagnosis is based on the patient's self-reported experiences and observed behavior." Schizophrenia is explored in Hollyoaks with the character Newt and him seeing his alter ego Eli, this is a clip from the programme.
The girls illness would lead her to become obsessed with the boy and the life that she wants to have. We could show this in the beginning by a back shot of a girl picking up a frame and then a close up shot of the picture in the frame coming alive and it would be the alter ego and the boy, this would have included an element of voyeurism as the star is watching herself. Women becoming obsessed with men are shown in films such as He Loves Me Not and Obsessed, this is the trailer of them both.
He Loves Me Not Trailer
Obsessed
When wondering how we could portray her illness I thought of having quick shots and choppy editing which could show her time in Brighton which is her dream and her normal self and I thought about having a high angle shot spiraling down of the girl which could represent her coming to terms with the realisation of her illness. I wanted the girls alter ego to be very flamboyant in clothing such as bright colours and sequins which could portray her alter ego as over the top and it makes her stand out. At the conference we were shown Pete Fraser's favourite A Level music videos at the majority of them were performance. Bearing this in mind the alter ego could sing in the Brighton shots as well as the bedroom performance for instance when walking down the beach she could be staring at the boy and singing romantic lyrics which portrays her love for him. Also, the we could have two people in the video one who is the actual girl and the other girl would be her alter ego, I got this idea from Shakespeare's Sister- Stay.
My group did not agree with my idea as they said that our idea was original but I think that our video conforms to the original Teenage Dream video as the setting, narrative and clothing are the same and the lyric. My group also said that the idea does not conform to the lyrics. However, I want to make our music video memorable and the video will conform in the beginning as it shows a couples relationship but ultimately it will challenge the conventions of a pop music video. I believe that through this story it will be unforgettable as it will surprise the audience and it will be a video that people could watch again and still be intrigued.

Teenage Dream Ideas (Five)
We want our artist in the music video to be fashionable in the Brighton shots and 'girly' in the bedroom shots. There are not many iconic pop female artists who I feel will suit for clothing for our music video for example, Lady Gaga's clothing is very eccentric which gains her publicity. I then decided to research female bands as they tend to be very fashionable for example, Girls Aloud who seems to mix fashion, promiscuous and individuality with each member in their clothing. Although, most female pop artists have personal stylists I feel that we can give our artist an fashionable and individual style with our budget.
After using search engines such as Google we found style icons that we feel will suit our music video for example, for clothing I thought our inspiration could be Frankie Sandford and Vanessa White, I thought of Leighton Meeser for our hair inspiration and lastly Frankie Sandford and Rihanna for our make up inspiration.

Teenage Dream Ideas (Four)
In Rihanna's new music video Only Girl (In The World) there are particularly noticeable and brilliant editing techniques which I feel would suit our music video.
Below is the music video to Rihanna- Only Girl (In The World).
In the beginning of Teenage Dreams there are seventeen beats and we wanted to have a different shot for each beat, we thought we could have seventeen different shots of the couple with out showing the couple so the love would be through symbols for example, a couple holding hands, feet entangled with one another and a shadow of the couple hugging each other or holding hands and walking. In Rihanna- Only Girl (In The World) quick and fast face shots are used to match the beat (2.49-2.58), there are three shots which are repeated in this editing
technique and the pace slows down, there are a wide shot of Rihanna standing on a pillar which symbolises her power, a mid shot of Rihanna on the pillar singing to the camera and a close up shot of Rihannas face looking down to represent her vulnerability. The repetitive shots make the audience want to know what are the shots which gains interest in the music video. The quick shots portrays Rihannas different emotions such as innocence which is shown in the close up shot when she is looking down, power in the wide shot when she is standing on a pillar with a long dress and prom
iscuosness which is portrayed in the mid shot because she is wearing a tight corset and her posture.
I think the use of the quick shots for our music video would be interesting because we can still show symbolisms of the love that the couple share and the audience will have time to see the shots instead of the seventeen shots which will be too quick.

Teenage Dream Ideas (Three)
We are filming in December and we expect that there will be bad weather when we are filming, so we have to prepare for the rain and wind because we are filming in Brighton which is far from where we live.

Teenage Dreams Ideas (Two)
We have decided that one of our locations will be at Brighton Beach because we wanted to have some shots of the couple walking hand in hand along the beach at night.
We want to film at Brighton Pier because we thought we could have an over the shoulder shot of the boy playing a game to win the girl a toy and then he could give the girl a toy, we liked this idea because it seemed like an American teen programme and most girls find that romantic. The photograph on the right is an example of the game where you can win toys, we would want something like this instead of the crane picking up a toy.
If we film at the pier there are many rides so we thought we could film close up shots of the rides and the couple on the ride.
This idea was inspired by Pink- Who Knew video were the couple are on the ride.
This video is filmed in a fun fair with the couple looking happy when they are walking together, although when they are on rides together the boy looks unhappy and the girl is trying to comfort him. Filming on
a ride will be very difficult because we will worry about lighting so we will film in the day but it may ruin our continuity because we wanted to film at late afternoon or night, we are going to be using a hand held camera on a fast ride so the camera may not completely focus on the couple and we will have to go on the ride about four times to try different angles and distances. However, if filming on the ride does not work we could film shots of the rides and have the couple standing in front of the camera.
We have been discussing some of our camera shots that we think we should have. We liked the idea of filming at the beach and placing the camera on the ground among the pebbles and rocks and having them in focus and gradually getting blurry and the couple will be in the background, we thought this will be a good shot because we do not want all of our shots just to be about the couple even though it is a love song but in this shot they will still be in it but less noticeable so we will still be conforming to the lyrics. On the left side is an example of the shot although the rocks nearest to the camera will be in focus.
We have been thinking about the lighting as well because when we were deciding what song we wanted to do the group really liked Beyonce-Halo and when we watched the video we all loved the lighting in the video because it was really bright and it seemed like a fantasy.
I really love the use of the bright lighting in the video because it makes the relations

We really liked the idea of a split screen to show both the girl and boy point of v

Teenage Dreams Ideas
Originally we had two ideas of where we could film we thought about Brighton or Bournemouth, the majority of the shots will be filmed at the beaches so we wanted to find a beach that we thought will suit our video. In the end we decided to film in Brighton, the picture on the right is of Brighton Beach. We liked that Brighton had pebbles instead of sand so the rough contrast and scale of the pebbles would we very interesting. We think that Brightons club scene would suit our 'pop' genre as club lighting is usually very bright and if we go to Brighton on a weekend the clubs will be busy. We really liked the architecture in Brighton as there is a contrast of modern buildings, old buildings like the Royal Pavillion and vintage shops. Plus, Brighton will be better for us to go there as it takes 1 hour and 45 minutes whilst driving and 45-1 hour on a overground train.
We believe that the song is about a girl feeling like she is a teenager again because she feels like this man is her first love, first kiss and she wants everything with him hence the title 'Teenage Dreams', we want our narrative to be about a couple and portraying their love for one another.
When reading the lyrics and peoples opinions about the song we became aware that this song was controversial as a lyric is "Let's go all the way tonight, No regrets, just love" which could be interpreted that the couple are going to have sex. It is controversial because the song is about teenagers in love and people think the song it promoting teen sex because there was an implied sex scene in the music video. However, many people do not agree including our group, this is an opinion from some one on Song Meanings http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858836257/ "She's not promoting teenage sex. The song is about two adults. She's singing about how her boyfriend makes her feel like a teenager" This could be interesting for us to get other peoples opinions about the song who are a range of ages. This could be a limitation for us because people may disagree with the lyrics and we do not want to imply a sex scene.
We really liked the shot of the clock reversing which is at 0.56, we thought we could do

We liked the idea of showing the couples life together, this is inspired by John Lewis advert.
I loved that the advert sho

Although, we are using Kate Nash- Foundations as inspiration to make this scene seem animated.
We really love the socks curling in to eachother at 1 minute and 10 seconds becau

To gain inspiration for our video or to include in our video I think we should film many couples talking about how they met, most of these couples would be middle aged or older to talk about their life together. Also, we should ask people who are teenagers in love before we storyboard so we could get inspiration or to know how we should portray the love story. Our inspiration for this is the movie Paper Heart (2009) it is a film about a girl who does not believe in love and she travels asking people how she met their partner.
The peoples whose story I loved the most in the film is from 3 minutes and 37 seconds till 7 minutes and 57 seconds. I found this story really romantic and interesting because in the beginning they both talk about divorce, the scene later talks about the women meeting her future husband on her first day

Lyrics to Katy Perry- Teenage Dream
These are the lyrics to Katy Perry- Teenage Dream.
You think I'm pretty
Without any make-up on
You think I'm funny
When I tell the punch line wrong
I know you get me
So I'll let my walls come down, down
Before you met me
I was a wreck
But things were kinda heavy
You brought me to life
Now every February
You'll be my valentine, valentine
Let's go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
We can dance until we die
You and I
We'll be young forever
You make me
Feel like
I'm living a Teenage Dream
The way you turn me on
I can't sleep
Let's runaway
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back
My heart stops
When you look at me
Just one touch
Now baby I believe
This is real
So take a chance
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back
We drove to Cali
And got drunk on the beach
Got a motel and
Built a fort out of sheets
I finally found you
My missing puzzle piece
I'm complete
Let's go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
We can dance until we die
You and I
We'll be young forever
You make me
Feel like
I'm living a Teenage Dream
The way you turn me on
I can't sleep
Let's runaway
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back
My heart stops
When you look at me
Just one touch
Now baby I believe
This is real
So take a chance
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back
I might get your heart racing
In my skin-tight jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight
Let you put your hands on me
In my skin-tight jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight
You make me
Feel like
I'm living a Teenage Dream
The way you turn me on
I can't sleep
Let's runaway
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back
My heart stops
When you look at me
Just one touch
Now baby I believe
This is real
So take a chance
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back
When reading the lyrics we immediately thought of many ideas and symbols for our music video for example, "You think I'm funny when I tell the punch line wrong" we thought of the girl telling a joke in front her group of friends and the love interest is the only one who is laughing. During the line "My missing puzzle piece" we thought of having an aerial shot filming a puzzle set which has a picture of the couple, when filming we would put one piece together and then we would edit it to make it seems smooth. Our inspiration for this idea is Kate Nash- Foundations as she includes animation in the video to create two tooth brushes moving next to each other as a symbol of love. Also, we thought of having an older couple looking back on their relationship because the song speaks in past tense, the song expresses the artist feeling like she feels like she is a teenager again "You make me feel like I'm living a Teenage Dream" which expresses that her boyfriend is her first love and first everything.
