After listening to the instrumental version of Katy Perry- Teenage Dream we found it very difficult to try and pick out the instruments that are being played, we then decided to watch a live performance of Teenage Dream to see the instruments. In the song there are two guitar players, one bass player, one keyboard player, one drum player, two back up vocalists and a lead vocalist who is Katy Perry, the still shot from the live performance is at the top which shows the band at the live performance. I really liked the live performance of the song because Katy Perry sings the chorus at the beginning with no instruments, this shows her amazing vocals and vocal pitch. Also, I liked the song but I noticed that Katy Perry did not sing some parts of the song for example, the high pitch "Yeahh.." this may be because of the high pitch as it's difficult to sing and get it perfect in a live performance. After looking at the guitar chords to the song I realised that the guitar is played during verse 1, bridge, the first chorus and the second bridge. teenage_dream_crd.htm) In our music video we only wanted to show the lead girl lip syncing because we did not want to rely on a lot of people incase they did not turn up for filming one day. However, after watching the live performance I really liked the extreme close up shot of the guitar being played which is shown on the right, think we could include the guitar in one of our seventeen shots. Although for our performance we wanted to portray the girls innocence by her performing in her bedroom, the guitar may show her as 'rocky' and 'rebelious' rather than 'innocent' and 'niave'. Also, we would have to show some one playing the guitar more than just once in our music video.
Through the live performance we found out that the bass guitar is played, however we could not find the tabs on how to play the song. Using Youtube I found a bass tutorial which is a step to step guide on how to play the song. The still shot on the right is of the tutorial, I found the tutorial insightful because watching the live performance the bass player was hardly shown and I did not know that the bass was played as often as it is in the song. Even though I found it difficult to understand which tabs are being played I think the tutorial would be good for a bass player.

The picture on the left is a still shot from the live performance and the camera is placed behind the drum set to see the other band members and the still shot from the right is taken from the tutorial. I found this tutorial difficult to learn the beat because the man in the video is only playing the drums and not telling people how to play, this may be because drum players would usually be able to pick up with the beat easily. I do not think we could even try to include drums in our music video because we would have to get someone to learn the beat and the drums are usually represented in the rock genre.

The key board member plays during the chorus, the key board sound is not a tradional piano sound, it is a additional sound to the key board which can be changed to any sound for example, a police siren. The still shot on the right shows all of the band during the live perfromance of Teenage Dream.
We are filming in December and we expect that there will be bad weather when we are filming, so we have to prepare for the rain and wind because we are filming in Brighton which is far from where we live.
If there is rain when we are filming we shall have rain coats and umbrellas protecting the camera equipment the actors will only have coats and umbrellas when we are not filming, in case of continuity the actors will have to be wet when we are filming. Umbrellas may ruin the shots for example, we want to see the couples face looking at one another to portray their love and longing.
When we are editing I think we should have slow motion pace which is inspired by Labrinth- Let the Sunshine, I really liked the shot where Labrinth turns around which is in slow motion to show the rain dripping on his face and then the editing is fast when he faces the audience. Even though, in this still shot there is sun which represent the song lyrics "Let the sunshine, let the sunshine baby" however this shot is mostly rain. In Let the Sunshine I really like the close up shot which shows the side of Labrinths face which is a dark shadowed siluet, I really like this shot and I would like to replicate it however we may have to film in a studio to use the variety of lighting that we have in photography and then using Imovie we could green screen the location.
The rain could be used as pathetic fallacy which is used in Labrinth- Let the Sunshine, so we could use the rain towards the end of our music video to symbolise the girls heart break.

However, if there is sunny or windy weather we will still film and edit the way we wanted our shots originally.
Storyboarding is significant for any media production because it gives a guideline the sequences of what the camera shots, mise-en-scene, editing and sound the director wants. When creating a storyboard every frame needs to include the people who will be in the shot, an explanation of what will happen in the shot for example, facial expressions and the characters movement, the shot inferior or exterior of the location, the equipment which is going to be used for the shot, framing of the shot for example, long shot, if there are extras in the shot, mise-en-scene in the shot such as, costume and make up, camera angle and the camera movement for example, tilt and pan.
Looking back at then last year when we started storyboarding and filmed I have learnt that we have to create a storyboard and to refer to the storyboard when filming, because when you do not look at your storyboard when filming the editing becomes difficult and the shots are fragmented.
This year we need our storyboard to be precise, detailed and we need to analyse the shot types due to last year when we filmed there was a lack of lighting and we needed to film again.
Also, we need to film more than we need so we can have a range of shots for example, filming a range of angles for one camera shot, this benefits us when editing which will increase our marks. Everyone in our group needs to film as well because we will have our individual opinions of what camera shot or angle will look better.
We need to be more organised this year for example, last year we use post stick notes and drew each shot of one post stick note, this was impractical because of the rain and wind when we were filming. We have decided to laminate our storyboard so it will handle the bad weather and the pen ink will not run.
In our group we have struggled with trying to find a name suitable for our genre, our theme of the music video and the style of our artist, we created a mind map which is shown below of our ideas and research in to our artist name.
We thought of our artist having a first name and surname which conforms to pop genre of our age range which is 17-18 years old for example, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus, though these artists are portrayed as 'happy' and 'child like' because they are on the television channel Disney. The full names for the disney artist reinforces their innocence, however as they have got older their innocence has been tainted which is shown by Miley Cyrus who was in Hannah Montana which is aimed at young children and her controversial pole dancing that she done at the VMA's. Many of the artists with a first name and surname are American for example, Justin Beiber and Katy Perry. I think the first name and surname will suit our artist because we will conform to the pop genre within our age and the style of these artists are fashionable which is how we want our style to be in our music video.
We thought of having a Stage Name which is usually for iconic artists such as Lady GaGa, Beyonce, Rihanna and Madonna, although these artists are very well known I do not think that we should have a stage name. The artists style are usully flamboyant and the artists music videos and stage performance is very expensive such as, Lady GaGa featuring Beyonce- Telephone which was filmed in a prison and they had many extras for the dance performance. Some UK artists have a stage name for example, Pixie Lott but she is not iconic.
We thought about having a band name after a first name for example, Florence and the Machine and Marina and the Diamonds, these bands have lead female vocalists which is very modern. However, these type of artists are in the alternative genre rather than the pop genre.
Below is a Wordle made from http://www.wordle.net/ we used words that we thought suited our music video, the themes in our music video and words associated with the pop genre. The wordle was originally landscape so I rotated it so the words will be more clear.
This wordle is very colourful which represents the pop genre as 'bright' and 'fun', we feel that the words First, Love, Teens and Dreaming suits our music video the most because they are the most significant themes in our music video. We have linked these words with our band brand image which suits our artist, music video and the song.
Below is our audience treatment feedback we used a colourful Wordle to represent the pop genre, overall we got a positive review and people used words to describe our presentation as 'well structured', 'dynamic' and 'good'. I feel that our presentation went well and I was very pleased with our feedback because we were not very sure if our ideas were structured well but know we feel confident within our music video and ideas.
