Performance VS The Narrative

Performance videos usually involve the band playing their instruments, the lead singer singing the song or the performer dancing like Beyonce- Single Ladies which showed Beyonce and two other women dancing though the focus was on Beyonce and the dance turned out to be a craze. Performance videos have different camera angles to keep the audience attention interested, the videos usually express the singers emotions and the unity of the band. The setting of the videos is usually in rehearsal rooms, gigs or studios. Most performance videos are usually rock bands as there can be different camera angles of each person playing the instrument.
Personally I really like performance videos as I like seeing the unity of the band.
This is my favourite performance video as I really like the different camera shots, the different effects of the rain and the rain splashing on the drums.

Narrative videos tell a story which relates to the lyrics of the song. The narrative has to be relevant to the song and it will have to be interesting so the fans will not be disappointed that the band does not appear in the video. Though some narrative videos could be seen as a disappointment as it may not be what the audience expected.
This is one of my favourite narrative music videos as the video relates to the lyrics of a mans girlfriend and female best friend fighting to get his attention.

Some music videos contain both narrative and performance for example, TLC- Unpretty which is one of my favourite music videos as the lyrics are about young girls hating themselves though everyone is beautiful and the video shows peace and trying to feel comfortable within yourself. The performance shows the group singing together and singing individually and it has a close up shot of the guitarist playing.
