At the age of 15 Katy Perry signed to the Christian music label Red Hill, under which she recorded her first album to a christian label Red Hill. Katy's album was self titled 'Katy Hudson' it was a gospel-rock album this was before she switched to mainstream pop music. The album was released on 23rd October 2001, the album received a good reviews from Russ Breimeier of Christianity Today, who applauded her voice and songwriting and called her "a remarkable young talent emerging, a gifted songwriter in her own right who will almost certainly go far in this business." However, people who wrote reviews on Rate your Music disagreed and said that the album was "not as interesting as her follow-up, but a far stronger vocal performance and a lot more varied sound".
The album did not do well on distribution and the album ceased after Red Hill Records folded at the end of 2001.
